If harvest or destruction of the trial is planned after the start of the sugar beet dig up campaign an additional isolation distance of 25 m to neighbouring sugar beet crops needs to be applied. Sugar beets are only tested during the vegetative stage. Bolters and volunteer plants will be destroyed, the vegetative material by chopping and incorporation in the soil.
Monitoring measures
After the trial the field will be followed up during 2 years. The first year after cultivation of the GM beets only a monocot can be cultivated. The second year all crops except beet are allowed.

Notes
Awaiting the validation of the sugar beet protocol for the year 2001, the previous protocol (valid for the year 2000) remains in place. No trials will be carried out in 2002.
