Containment measures: 

Seed production is carried out under physical containment conditions (greenhouse or pollen-free cages). According to the Belgian protocol for transgenic chicory valid for the year 2001 an isolation border of 5 m (e.g. ryegras) needs to be guaranteed. If harvest of the trial is planned after the start of the traditional dig up campaign, an additional isolation distance of 25 m to neighbouring Chicorium species need to be applied. Chicory is only tested during the vegetative stage. No flowering allowed.

Monitoring measures: 

After harvest potential volunteer plants will be destroyeded. The way of monitoring the trials is still under discussion.

Status: 

Authorization procedure completed. The notifier was granted authorization from the Federal Minister to perform the trial.

Notes: 

The trials need to be executed in accordance with the protocol of chicory valid for the year 2001. All the operations conducted during the trial will be recorded in a logbook, according to this protocol.
