* Fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP 5)

Topic: The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Protocol (COP-MOP) is the governing body of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. Its primary role is to keep under regular review the implementation of the Protocol and to make decisions necessary to promote its effective implementation.

* Symposium on Contributions from scientific research to the risk assessment of GMOs

Topic: This symposium, organized by the Division of Biosafety and Biotechnology of the Scientific Institute of Public Health, aims at gathering scientists that are interested or involved in biosafety-related issues and whose domain of research and expertise might help to develop a better understanding or evaluation of the potential risks associated with the use of GMOs. By delineating some specific subjects of risk assessment of GMOs, a multi-disciplinary forum will be created where participants will be offered the opportunity to share their scientific views and expertise from disciplines and technologies such as biology, allergenicity, gene therapy or food biotechnology. The symposium will be dedicated to the following topics: Scientific contributions to risk assessment of GMOs; Epigenetic effects; Genetically modified micro-organisms : vectors for gene delivery; Field studies and their contribution to ERA of GM plants; ‘OMICS’. During the presentations and discussions, particular attention will be given on how scientific research and developments can give new insights or contribute to the risk assessment of GMOs.
Date: 21 - 22 October 2010
Venue: Brussels, Belgium

* Animal Research Facilities 2010

Topic: Annual meeting for industry leaders involved in planning, administration, and operation of academic medical & health science centers (i.e. medical schools, hospitals & clinics, clinical & basic research centers, health professions programs, and health science programs) to benchmark their plans and programs, and build on the latest successes and innovations.
Date: 8 - 9 November 2010
Venue: San Diego, California, USA

* 11th International Symposium on the Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms (ISBGMO)

Topic: The theme of ISBGMO 11 is "The role of biosafety research in the decision making process". This symposium will bring together scientists interested in sharing results and learning from other experts in the area of biosafety research and its application to regulatory decision-making. As such, a program of workshops and talks is being developed that will encourage the exchange of scientific experiences and ideas with a focus on how biosafety research supports regulatory processes especially risk assessments and ultimately science-based decisions. This symposium affords an opportunity for those involved in the research, development, testing, regulation, assessment and management of GMOs worldwide to share experiences with colleagues from around the globe.
Date: 15 - 20 November 2010
Venue: Buenos Aires, Argentina
